WELCOME TO THE MELC

Multi-media English Learning Centres

An English Learning Centre is established in each of the learning centres at Kowloon Bay, Fortress Tower and Po Leung Kuk campus on Leighton Road all of which have an English Activity Room for the practice of the informal use of English. Some centres are also equipped with computers, resource materials and multi-media learning machines for self –learning and self-practice in English.

Practices can be done in the students' own time. A library of self-instructional packages is available on loan and teacher guidance areaccessible on request for those students who are interested in improving their writing, reading, listening and speaking skills. In addition, the English Domain also provides a number of teacher guided activities. Attendance certificates are awarded to those students who attend the activities regularly.

"Chat and Write" is an exercise lesson in which students practice speaking and writing in English.  Students will be given short and interesting passages to read and discuss with one another.  They will also write short essays in the lesson.  The teacher will help students improve themselves by telling them the grammatical mistakes they make and idiomatic ways of expression.  Through these practical exercises, the teacher hopes to help students sharpen their important skills of oral and written presentation in English.

Miss Eve Ho

Do you find it frustrating when coming across words you do not understand while doing HKDSE English Examination Paper 1 Reading?  Or getting a low mark in Paper 2 Writing because of using too many high frequency words, making your writing rather bland? Then this activity is for you!  We will look into how different words were developed over the years and how new words are still being 'born' today.  How these words are used for general and specific situations will also be examined at a sentence, paragraph and article level.  Hopefully, you will have a better grasp at deciphering unfamiliar vocabulary and increasing your personal word bank so as to improve your understanding of expressions, and then reflect it in your own writing and speaking.
